Can I still use an AHA and/or BHA by alternating it in the evenings of the week with Retinol?

I have been told by a highly respected derm that retinoids bring skin cells to the surface that are not yet mature enough to be there making you much more prone to free radical damage from UV-A damage. There is also growing evidence that sunscreen actually increases free radical damage.

Thanks doc love from India

I’m so relieved to see this video! With 10% Azelaic acid + Squalane in the evening and a Niacinimide + Salicylic toner in the morning, my combination, breakout-prone skin has been happy for the past 2 months. Thank you for keeping us motivated to take care of our skin, Dr Sam ✨

Hi Sam. Love your content…. Can we buffer retin a micro?? thanks

I love your brightening serum. It has made such a difference in my skin tone. Thanks for mentioning routine alternatives. It’s good to have options if my skin needs a break from my retinoid.

My skin can tolerate retinols, but I don’t see any thing drastic from them. Now, I have experienced drastic results from the use of retinoids, however, I think I had been on Retin A for too long, because it stopped working as effective as it used to. However, my reason for getting off of it is because it always super irritated my skin and would continuously keep my skin barrier in a compromised state. And, I had come to the realization, that it was best that I get off of it. Plus, I am an eczema sufferer, and it caused a lot of issues with flaring up my eczema. So, I don’t regularly use any retinoid on my skin at this time.

I do monthly or bi-monthly at home chemical peels, using The Ordinary’s AHA+BHA Peeling Solution, I wash my face with Aveeno’s Calm+Restore Facial Cleanser, I use Aveeno’s Calm+Restore Gel Moisturizer, and I will switch between using The Ordinary’s 10% Lactic Acid + HA Exfolating Serum or Glow Recipe’s Strawberry Smooth BHA+AHA Salicylic Acid Serum. And, my skin is doing quite good with this new regimen thus far, which I am keeping my fingers crossed that it definitely continues to do so for sure.

Hi Dr Sam, I live in a hot climate where my face sweats a lot in the summer, even at night. How does sweating affect retinol or tretinoin?

Yup its really helpful 👍…i don't need to see any dermatologist because I have learned so much from your videos

Hi Dr Sam. Just love your videos. Could you please tell me what these ingredients mean on a serum I bought recently and if it helps with anti ageing or what it is good for…… Oligopeptide-1. Oat ext. Bifidobacteriumiongum. N-Acetyl-L-Cysteine. Midazolidiny urea. Carbomer. Triethanolamine. Methylparaben. Thanks in advance xx

I have really been enjoying your videos. It is like the long coffee-shop-talks I wish my Derm had the time for. 🥰 So helpful and expounding! It is also great to hear from a Derm with the same skin type/issues asI do…you get the view from a patient's perspective as well as a doctors! Thank you, I have better skin because of your videos, and it is all free for the learning.

Thank you so much, can I use this ingredients together with Tretinoin?

I use Tretinoin and am looking for a product/products to boost it up

Thank you so much, you are the best

I love watching your videos Dr. Sam…. thank you for all the informations you're giving us when it comes to improving our skin… Perhaps if you have time to make a video about kojic acid that would be of so much help and definitely appreciated. Thank you so much.

Something a lot of people are not talking about is hypervitaminosis due to topical vitamine A. Experienced it myseld and had to lower my usage.

Do you ship to Canada?????

This is Gonna B so Good🔥🔥🔥👍….

I would love to get input on a routine with tretinoin for menopausal skin. One hot flashes and it seems like I can't hold onto hydration after my tret and moisturizer

I never get the "glow" the next day when I use retinol, but I see a HUGE difference in radiance and glow the next day with azeleic acid. I thought it was because it was my first exfoliant ever, but after taking a break for a year from it and starting it again, I saw it on the first day. Favorite skincare ingredient ever.

Yes, as another viewer has asked, would you introduce AHA if you can't use retinoids? But with azelaic still the priority? thanks
